INTERNATIONAL PERFORMERS BOWLED OVER BY POPULAR RESPONSE

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has roped in international teams of highly-skilled, world-class professionals and artists to make the Sharjah Water Festival the spectacular success that it is today.

From the renowned Russian and Polish circus artists to Romanian jugglers and Italian magicians behind the Circus on Ice and from the Guinness World Record holder Yo Yo People to those casting a spell on their audiences with performances such as the Irish Dance Show and the Pets Magic, the Sharjah Water Festival 2011 has brought together a pool of rare international talent and creativity.

And bringing them all together to create an extravaganza of world-class entertainment and fun and games are global entertainment and event management companies with offices based in Europe and the UAE.

Commenting on Sharjah’s association with crème de la crème of artists, talent and technical wizardry, SCTDA Director General Mohamed Ali Al Noman said that the artists and performers as well as entertainment and event management companies were chosen on the basis of their track record and professionalism. Al Noman said since the Sharjah Water Festival debuted five years ago, the SCTDA and companies involved have spared no efforts to make it a grand success by bringing the best of talent and skills from around the world.

A senior official of one of the entertainment and event management firms who has been responsible for artistic direction and choreographing the whole spectacular event for the past five years, said Sharjah held a special place in his team’s hearts. “We really enjoy our time here thanks to the encouragement and enthusiasm shown by the audiences and constant support and cooperation of the organizers. Our artists and performers are really inspired and enthused by this support. Some kind of magic happens in Sharjah. Maybe it’s because the emirate has always encouraged and nourished culture, heritage and arts,” said he.

Both the performers and organisers are both excited over the fact that the Water Festival is getting bigger and more spectacular every year thanks to the growing public participation and introduction of new features and programmes.

Referring to the growing crowds and enthusiastic popular response to the wholesome fun and entertainment offered by the SWF, another event management official said perhaps the event should be held twice a year, in winter and summer, and at a bigger venue to cater to growing numbers of international visitors and residents.

“Thanks to its reputation as the Cultural Capital of the Arab world, Sharjah is ideal to host such world-class entertainment and cultural events,” said he. “Having performed in this part of the world for the past many years, I can say that there is no place like Sharjah for international visitors to experience the authentic Arabian culture and hospitality.”

Meanwhile the SCTDA Director General said that all the SWF events and shows this year have reported houseful performances since they opened on December 14. “We are likely to beat last year’s record with school vacations and holiday season coinciding with the festival,” he added. Curtain comes down on the festival on December 23rd. The Sharjah officials are confident that the tremendous success this year could aid in their efforts to further increase the tourist flow into the emirate.
