GLOBAL EVENTS ATTRACTING MORE INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS TO THE EMIRATE
The Sharjah Water Festival 2011 is set to establish new records with more than 50,000 people already visiting Al Majaz Park in the first five days of the event. With several new events and activities fuelling public interest and attracting visitors from all over the UAE and the region, the SWF has carried forward its success story of the past five years celebrating Sharjah as a unique family tourism and heritage and entertainment destination.
This year, the SWF organisers have divided Al Majaz Park into five zones to ease the movement of visitors from one zone to another, making it possible to be part of all the events and activities of the festival. The Heritage Area faces the Mouj Adventure Zone, one of the most popular sections of the SWF, and next to it is the Mouj Ice Island followed by the cavernous and distinct pavilion of the wildly popular Circus on Ice. The play area is right behind the Circus. Then there is Food Court, information & operations centers and ticket booths and Mouj gifts shops.
The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has been hosting the Sharjah Water Festival year after year to promote the emirate and its traditions and customs. The visitors get a peek into the past as the rich heritage and history of the emirate are blended at the Heritage Village. This area also presents visitors with a variety of traditional Emirati food. There’s a collection of books on heritage too.
On the other side, you find Mouj Adventure Zone, which is the place to be for kids. They could experience real adventures with a variety of aqua games and workshops that blend education with fun and encourage the spirit of competition and excellence among the young.
The Sharjah Water Festival, with its new events and activities, is also an ideal place for family outings and shared experiences. The festival, which has witnessed unprecedented response this year since it opened on December 14, will continue till the 23rd of December. The festival hosts, the SCTDA, are confident that the tremendous success this year could aid in their efforts to further increase the tourist flow into the emirate.
