Sharjah Travel Industry Advisory Committee discusses ways to increase tourist inflow into the emirate
The Sharjah Travel Industry Advisory Committee has held its first meeting for 2010 in order to discuss the plans developed by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) for the year, to identify and outline the emirate’s tourist attractions for international promotion and to develop tools for further increasing tourist inflow into the emirate, with particular emphasis on expanding promotional campaigns for the various attractions on offer in Sharjah.
The meeting began with a presentation on the international exhibitions in which the SCTDA is scheduled to participate this year. The authority aims to participate in a number of the world’s leading travel and tourism fairs and exhibitions as an integral part of its global marketing strategy. The SCTDA seeks to enhance collaborations local and international travel and tourism agencies as a means of addressing the challenges of the current economic climate and contributing to sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
Meeting attendees stressed the significant competitive edge gained through effective promotional campaigns in opening new markets. The SCTDA’s promotional campaigns for this year will cover the GCC and CIS regions as well as Eastern Europe. A number of yet to be announced initiatives were also discussed during the meeting.
Representatives of the SCTDA discussed with members of the advisory committee the necessity for continuously ensuring that their actions align with the latest international developments, thus aiding in forwarding the aims of the emirate’s promotional activities. They, also, underlined the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government authorities in achieving these aims.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included Sharjah’s tourist attractions, expansion of the emirate’s participation in international tourism and commerce-related events, and the opening of new markets in order to attract greater tourist number to the emirate. The committee lauded the Authority’s efforts in organizing and maintaining the emirate’s presence at leading international fairs and exhibitions.
The committee further praised the SCTDA for all that it has achieved thus far on the local, regional and international levels and for its outstanding contributions to further improving the emirate’s position on the world’s tourism map throughout the year 2009. These achievements were the result of tremendous effort on the SCTDA’s part and reflect the emirate’s sound management of its tourism sector and the successful promotion of its branding identity.
The SCTDA has a proven track record of promotional programs that succeed in further increasing tourist inflow into Sharjah from one year to the next. Sharjah’s tourism sector continues to see substantial growth, with more than 1.5 million tourists visiting the emirate each year to enjoy its unique attractions and rich cultural heritage.
Sharjah Travel Industry Advisory Committee is part of the Sharjah government’s collaborative tourism efforts, which aim to develop the quality of the tourism and hospitality sector in the emirate and seek to successfully implement concepts and suggestions that will further boost the emirate’s performance throughout the year.
