Cultural Palace

Originally constructed in 1986 and recently refaced, this striking example of Islamic architecture, with its sweeping staircase and intricate stonework, is a primary venue of cultural activities in Sharjah.

The official opening was attended by the late President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Overlooking Cultural Square, the building covers an area of 4,185 sq. metres and comprises a number of halls, the largest seating 450 people and offering impressive stage facilities. The state-of-the-art conference hall seats 134 people and comes equipped with the latest sound, light and audio-visual gear, with an interpreters room for simultaneous translation into different languages.

Managed by the Department of Culture and Information, the Cultural Palace is a work of art in its own right and hosts a number of activities; multi-intellectual and cultural events, conferences, drama works, musical evenings and movie shows. One of the most prominent events to be held here was the Arab Cultural Ministers conference in November 1998. In the same year, “The Return of Holako”, written by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, was preformed in the main hall.

Sharjah Theatres Group operates out of the Cultural Palace organising theatrical shows and can be contacted on +97165241238 for details of up and coming events.
