Arabia’s Wildlife Centre
Located at Sharjah Desert Park, Arabia’s Wildlife Centre is the only ‘zoo’ in Arabia which exhibits all the animals naturally occurring in the Arabian Peninsula, both current and extinct. Opened in September 1999, this excellent facility houses over 100 species displayed in safe, spacious and natural surroundings. The centre demonstrates the diversity of the fauna found in the peninsula and creates awareness of the species, which have, and are, becoming extinct.
The walk-through aviary allows you to get close to the birds and smaller animals and then you find yourself ‘in the cage’ admiring the larger mammals who roam freely in an open environment. Catch the vibes of a venomous viper, see eye to eye with the endangered Arabian Leopard, and discover life after dark in the nocturnal display house.
Younger visitors will enjoy walking around the Children’s Farm (+97165311127), which is located next door to the Wildlife Centre. Children can pet and feed their favourite domesticated animals, and ride ponies and camels at the weekend.
