Sharjah International Airport

Sharjah International Airport celebrates over 75 years in operation since the first airport opened in 1932. In 1977 the airport relocated to its present position and has recently completed a major expansion and redevelopment to keep pace with the increasing number of passengers and growing cargo business. In 2009 the airport handled nearly 5 million passengers with over 50,000 flights to 280 destinations worldwide, and the movement of 586,677 tonnes of cargo.

The airport is conveniently situated just 10 kilometres from the city centre. It offers many traveller friendly facilities: the ‘Hala’ meet and greet service; all travel related services through Sharjah Air Travel Agency (SATA); full communications and postal services; banks and exchange centres; prayer areas; duty free shopping; restaurant and cafés; car rental; medical facilities and all airport handling services. Geared towards visitors’ needs, the airport boasts a 20-minute passenger check-in and checkout time.

Dufry, Sharjah’s modern Duty Free offers additional shopping facilities and duty free products to passengers passing through the airport.

Air Arabia, the leading low cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa operates out of Sharjah and flies to over 60 destinations across the region. In early 2009 Air Arabia Maroc began operations from Casablanca airport providing services domestically in Morocco and ‎throughout Europe.
