Executive Council

The Executive Council was established in 1999 by Emiri Decree No 2, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council to assist the Ruler in the performance of his functions, to maintain security and to raise the social and economic standards and social services, and for the setting up of plans to development the Emirate.

The functions of the Executive Council are as follows:

  • Defining the policy of the local government departments under the supervision of His Highness, the Ruler and the implementation of this policy
  • Setting up objectives for the economic and social development of the Emirate and suggesting means and procedures necessary for implementing these objectives, ensuring the proper use of financial resources, the approval of the plans and their implementation
  • Defining proposals for the law and decrees, and referring them to the Ruler and the concerned authorities for implementation
  • Maintaining the interests of the citizens and providing the necessary services to raise their standard of living
  • Supervision of the administrative body in the Emirate and setting plans for its development
  • Establishment of government departments and authorities according to the needs of the public
  • Preservation of the cultural heritage and support of scientific research, the arts and literature, and maintaining these scientific and academic institutions to further the cultural and scientific development of the Emirate
  • Development of natural resources and environmental studies
  • Preparation of the annual budget of the Emirate and submission to the Ruler for its approval by a law
